After an escape from Egypt and a trip through the wilderness, God’s people had made it to the borders of the promised land. Canaan was promised by God, and it was described as a land flowing with milk and honey. (Exodus 3:17) It truly was a paradise for the people of God, and it was ripe for the taking. This brings us to Numbers 13 and 14. In this text, Moses sends out 12 spies to scout out the land as they prepare to begin their conquest. However, 10 of these spies gave a bad report. Only Caleb and Joshua believed that they could overcome the enemy and take the land promised to them. What was the major difference between these two groups? Their view of God! In Numbers 14:3 and Numbers 14:8-9, we see the different perspectives. The overcomers remembered God and His promise, and the doubters were focused only on themselves. Friends, how we view God matters! If we want to be overcomers, we must remember Him and His promises to us. Those who will fail are those who neglect God and His promises. They focus solely on themselves. Where is your perspective today? Of the estimated 1 to 2 million people standing on the borders of Canaan, Joshua and Caleb were the ones allowed to enter the promised land. They were the overcomers because of their view of God. Is your view one of an overcomer?
