Why are Worship and Bible Class Important? (Hebrews 2:1)

At the Southwest church of Christ, we meet every Sunday and Wednesday. On Sunday’s we have Bible class at 9:30 AM and Worship service at 10:30 AM & 6 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet for Bible study at 7:00 PM. I want to encourage us all to be at every single worship service and Bible class. It is so important that we all gather “every time the doors are open.” Why? Consider what the Hebrew writer said in Hebrews 2:1. “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.” The writer here refers to “what we have heard.” The context of this scripture points us to know that this is in reference to the inspired teaching they were receiving, the Word of God. Why did they need to pay “much closer attention” to the Word of God? A failure to do so would result in them “drifting away from it.” The moment we stop paying attention to the Word of God is the moment we drift away from it. We stop listening to God’s Word and fail to glean the encouragement, instruction, and security contained therein. So again I ask, “Why are Worship and Bible class so important?” Every time we gather to worship or study the Bible is an opportunity for us to “pay much closer attention” to the Word of God. It is a chance for us to grow closer to God, not distance ourselves from Him and His people. Brothers, sisters, and friends, it is of the utmost importance that we attend every worship service and every Bible class. This demands that we make sacrifices concerning our time and our plans. God sacrificed His Son for us; may we also see the importance of worship and Bible class and make the necessary sacrifices to be there. The Hebrew writer would later exhort his audience by saying, “And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…” (Hebrews 10:24,25) I love you all very much and hope to see you the next time we assemble together!
