What can nature teach us about our God? According to passages like Psalm 19:1 and Romans 1:20, we see evidence for the existence of God and also pictures of His glory. Taking a look at creation can tell us so much about our Creator. It is also interesting to note that inspired writers of God’s Word use nature to help our imagination concerning who God is. For our article today, consider Nahum 1:3.
The reality is, we cannot fully wrap our minds around how big, great, and mighty our God is. However, Nahum gives us a picture in nature to help us try. He said,
The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and the LORD will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. In whirlwind and storm is His way, and clouds are the dust beneath His feet
(Nahum 1:3).
Have you ever stopped to look at the clouds? Perhaps you played the game where you pointed out various clouds and how they are shaped like other objects such as dogs, a bunny, or a turtle. Have you ever been in an airplane and saw clouds as far as the eye can see? What about thunderhead clouds full of thunder and lightning as storms roll in? These objects of creation can create a sense of awe in us. Now, the next time you look at clouds, think of them as the dust of God’s feet! We may not fully be able to wrap our minds around who God is, but looking at the clouds in this way can help us appreciate His greatness.
So, the next time you look to the sky, take a moment to acknowledge the might and glory of our great God. Tell your children about the prophet Nahum’s words so that they may also begin to stand in awe of our Creator. In doing so, we become more reverent children of our Father who is in Heaven. In doing so, we develop faith and action according to His desires. Take a look at the clouds, nature paired with the Word of God can teach us some wonderful things about the One who made it all.
