Two Premises Worth Considering (Part B) 2 Timothy 3:16-17 & 2 Peter 1:3

Coping is a book written by brother
Steven Lloyd. It is a wonderful
resource that can help point us to
the solution to our problems in this life. In
my last article, we looked at the first of two
premises that this book was based upon. Do
you remember what this premise was? If
you said, “The Bible is the Word of God,”
you would be correct! Do you remember the
scripture that this premise is based upon? If
you said, “2 Timothy 3:16,17,” you would
be right again. This week, we will turn our
attention to the second premise.
Premise #2: 2 Peter 1:3

“God has granted to us all things that pertain
to life and godliness through a knowledge of
His Son.” (Coping, Lloyd) I want you to think
about the phrase, “…all things that pertain
to life and godliness…” This quote was first
given to us by Peter in 2 Peter 1:3. Do the
problems of this life fit into the category of
“life?” They absolutely do. This means that God has given us what we need to navigate,
handle, and cope with the problems that lie
within this life! We are granted these things
through knowledge. How do we get the
knowledge we need from God? His Word!
Do you see the connection between these
two premises now? Let’s look at an equation
that might help us see the connection.

Premise #1: The Bible is God’s Word.
(2 Timothy 3:16,17)

Premise #2: God has granted to us all
things that pertain to life and godliness.
(2 Peter 1:3)

Premise #1 + Premise #2 = Everything we
need to handle and cope with life’s problems.
The one who has God’s Word and studies
it to gain its knowledge and wisdom is the
one who will know how to cope with their
problems. May God always be the one we
turn to when we are questioning how to
navigate our problems in this life.
