The Prosperity of the Blessed Man (Psalm 1:1-3)

The Prosperity of the Blessed Man (Psalm 1:1-3)

Do you want to prosper in this life? There are few if any that would say no to a question such as this one. Of course we want our lives to thrive! But how…? How can we walk through a world full of sin, death, pain, and suffering? Psalm 1:1-3 provides us a two-step process that leads straight to a blessed and prosperous life.

Step #1: Avoid the slippery slope of sin.

One of the scary characteristics of sin is its progressive nature. A man once said that sin will, “Take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than what you want to pay.” Notice in Psalm 1:1 how the blessed man will not walk → stand → or sit in the counsel, path, or seat of those who are wicked, sinners, or scoffers. They avoid this sinful progression. God has revealed what sin is, what are we doing to avoid it? (James 4:17; 1 John 3:4)

Step #2: Delight and meditate in the law of the Lord.

The one who will read, ponder, and apply the Word of God to their life is the one who will be blessed. They will be blessed because they,

will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.(Psalm 1:3)

If we will delight and meditate in the law of the Lord, we will have lives that are stable, productive, and prosperous. What a blessing to have the Word of God in its entirety! Do we meditate and delight in it?
