A Hearing the Voice of Satan

A Hearing the Voice of Satan

What we hear, affects us. Adam and Eve sinned after listening to Satan. He spoke to them about something desirable, being as gods, (Gen. 3:5) and in their weakness they fell. Satan still speaks to us today through the evil things of this world that tempt us. Like Adam and Eve, heeding his voice results in our spiritual demise.

Satan’s voice is deceptive. Jesus said, “…He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44). Our great enemy dangles the things of the world before us in an attempt to convince us that they are good (Jas. 1:13-15). He specializes in twisting and perverting reality in order to trap his prey (1 Pet. 5:8). He only changed one word of God’s command to Adam and Eve, but in so doing he presented a completely different reality. His promises of joy and prosperity in this life seem wonderful yet a true investigation into what he really offers reveals otherwise.

Satan’s voice is destructive. The gratification Satan offers lasts only a short time and is followed by devastating and lasting consequences. Adam and Eve’s transgression introduced sin and death into the world for all people (Rom. 5:12). Sin never produces good things. The guilt of sin causes emotional damage. The weight of sin causes worry, stress, regret, depression, and even suicide. Sin tears families apart, ruins careers, destroys reputations, tears down churches, and steals our livelihood. Sin destroys lives.

Satan’s voice is damning. Living in sin means severance from God (Isa. 59:1-2). The payment we receive for sin is death (Rom. 6:23). If we heed the voice of Satan in this life we will be in hell with him in the next. John wrote, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Rev. 21:8). Hearing the voice of Satan brings death.
